I decided to post this thread due to the fact that I havent found many mac user forums here, so here goes:
Ive been playing eve for over a year on a dual platform macbook pro(no problems)- so I was thrilled to hear that FINALLY eve came to mac (offical)- unfortunately iam one of those guys who cant wait months to see what develops with software and products -so I already had installed leopard on my mac.
As i read through mac forums& eve news i came accross an article that eve runs smoothly on Tiger. and asured that theyve ironed out the glitches they would run with Leopard.
with that said i was a bit skepticle becaouse -well...unless apple handed CCP a leopard advance software to play with(doubtful)..then i could see it successfully working on Leopard.
unfortunately I was right.
eve opened at first smoothly on Leopard, but: problems started with the tab menu and closing options ingame. (i have access to three -wireless, cable, and laptop mouse.so its not a mouse issue).
so no luck.
the game crashes when i try and adjust my graphics menu or skip and jump ingame to find all my windows (character, ship cargo, market)open.which i cant close or reduce.
seems all i can do is pan left n right/zoom in n out....and see my ship docked in station.
well, Ive petition this and ill see whats to be said- in the meantime i guess is back to bootcamp until they release a patch to fix all these strange glitches.
Iam not ranting on CCP. iam thrilled about eve/mac venture, iam just bringing this to the floor so if there are any other mac-heads out there running into same issues on running eve on leopard-know they are not alone.
or at least I could know iam not alone....after all, 'In space, no one can hear you scream'...

Edited by: Akrinos LuCont on 07/11/2007 15:01:53 lol- yeah guess i didnt ad that in- when i first installed game i went directly to settigns to change that-and thats when issues started...i didnt get that option(window mode)only full frame mode. then freezes on audio tab- i cant get access to any other tabs in settings unless i 'esc' but then i cant click on any tabs my mouse is useless or keys ingame (only works to log in)...ive also tried to re-install the game...still get the same settings. reason i want to modify is becaouse game is slightly off monitor and i neeed to set a proper monitor scale. which can only be done ingame settings (not mac monitor settings).
thank you for your response.

ok guys ive done a little more tinkering and this is what ive found so far.... Once you download the game and install-itll prob work fine. BUT!- us mac users are NOT used to these otrousheous graphics that the game automatically offers (think AMIGA 2000- 1998)-so. we go and try adjust the graphics ingame settings menu- and thats where the errors begin-when i log back out to play the mouse dosent work-and everything freezes up. it becomes sticky..
I sudgest for anyone who has tried adjusting the graphics ingame to re-install the game as follows...
To remove a game: 1. Drag the EVE Online icon from the Applications folder to the trash. 2. Drag the users preferences folder ( located under /Users/username/Library/Preferences/Eve Online/Preferences/p_drive/Local Settings/Application Data/CCP/EVE. ) to the trash.
Then be patient and Just play the game without adjusting anything until they FIx these issues-in the meantime id sudgest to bootcamp it- its a pain-which is why ive stopped playing eve in the past 4 months and gone with other user friendly mmos.
But i see this as a diamond in the rough- much yet to made of all this- iam sure itll be amazing once its fixed!
but guys- please the graphics????....its like putting a honda engine in a ferrari...let us adjust them as intended....ty
ive taken retrofires advice and sent a doc to help CCP and Transgaming a lot with locating the cause of our issues.

yes-iam mac snub!-and i solenly speak only for leopard users- not tiger!

Edited by: Akrinos LuCont on 08/11/2007 01:12:25 well. Ive managed to get it up and running again after a (clean) install ( i mean the game!!!!)- by NOT fidging much with ingame graphic settings-its seems thats where the real sticky terror lurks.
after station check- i ventured into some asteroids-killed a spawn...The graphics where acceptable after a careful graphic monitor adjustment. and well...its a little laggy (map works great!) but its expected first run and all. alot needs to be desired but in time im sure itll get done! so in the meantime -(as above) i wont be heading into JITA or getting into any fleet battles anytime soon...and more mining and exploring for me!
so- great job CCP & Trans/Cider...Co. for making this HAPPEN!..ill be ingame more often -and iam sure my corp will be happy to hear that!''
-cheers

- Changing depth buffer settings from the default seems to lead to crashiness, in one case crashing literally seconds after logging in (making it hard to revert the change). Deleting preferences files and returning to defaults helped. After that, I just didn't mess with depth buffer settings and it was solid after that.
- Mac OS seemed _really_ unstable after running EVE, with random applications, the Finder, the Dock, even MenuItems blowing up with protection faults. Traced this problem down to having Spaces enabled. Turning Spaces off seems to have solved the problem.
Hopefully I'll have time to dig into more detail with why those things caused instability and file real bug reports, hope this helps more mac users enjoy the game though :)
This exacly whats happened to me in the past when installing game. couldnt of put it in better words- but aside from that, it seems to be working fine now (1week so far)- changed skills and shopped for equipment, and jumped to window mode with no problems or lock-ups- will be making a 8 gate jump soon- ill let ya know how that journey goes- but i forsee no problems.
I think Its all new to CCP to hear how us mac users adjust our computers so it will take some time to make these changes guys- solution bootcamp or just dont change any settings or play additonal programs (itunes, web browser..etc) while ingame to avoid crashes if on the leopard platform.
